Beach Blanket Bingo Bash

Peru and Ecuador occupy one-third of South America's vast Pacific coast, yet few people think of them as maritime nations. Don't be fooled by common ignorance, this is the place to come for pristine natural beaches, world-class surfing, and some of the best seafood on the continent. On the mainland, solitude awaits at the beaches of Alandaluz and the Paracas National Reserve. If it's drink-ing and dancing you're after, head to Atacames, Salinas, and Punta Hermosa. To tempt surfers, Monta?ita has consistent year-round swells and beach-front fiestas, while Pico Alto is South America's tallest wave (12-15 ft. faces). Better yet, most breaks see little traffic, which means more rides for everyone. As for the seafood menu, ceviche (a chilled, spicy, raw seafood dish) is the undisputed regional champion. It's a lot tastier than it sounds: sushi with a twist of lemon, salsa, and spice.
